Expo 2020 and all the expectations that come with it

With 25 days to the launch of the EXPO2020, the entire city prepares itself to celebrate the long-awaited event of the ‘quinquennial’. The EXPO is held every 5 years, designed to show the best of every present culture.

As of October 1st, Dubai is set to open its doors to the six-month event and exceed every milestone of its previous predecessors. After a short opening ceremony that will be held on September 30, the event will resume all set activities of the EXPO 2020 calendar.

What You Need To Know

The event broadly features millions of visitors and tourists from different corners of the world including the thousands of students and volunteers that have pro-actively taken part in its commencement.

The EXPO 2020 will commence on the 1st of October, open all week, and will be open from 10 AM to 1 AM on weekdays, and 10 AM to 2 AM on weekends,

Tickets are now available on the EXPO 2020 official website, starting from AED 95 for one-day passes, AED 195 for a 30-day pass, and AED 495 for a special six-month pass. However, all students, children (under 17 years), and senior citizens (60+ years) will have free access to the entire event.

What’s more exciting is the addition of the ‘Jubilee Pass’ which gives you exclusive access to premium spots on the venue, guided tours, six-month access to the event site.

What To Expect

The EXPO 2020 is an extravagant projection of a miniature world that aims shed light on sustainable solutions and new innovations to help face global challenges.

The 200,000 square meters event space will feature some unique architectural wonders centered around the Al Wasl Dome. The Al Wasl Plaza also referred to as ‘Heart of the EXPO’ provides 360 views of the EXPO site featuring three main thematic pavilions – Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability.  While the interiors are generously equipped with over 200 projector pods to create inspiring imagery and laser shows across the centurium.

The event embraces over 195 country pavilions along with many inclusive programs including ‘Thrive Together’ which aims to encourage budding entrepreneurs, MNC’s as well as start-ups to build their network. Moreover, as a movement, the event has also embraced its younger generations, people of determination, as well as individuals aimed towards their career advancements.

Why is it important?

As a major leap for the city, the EXPO is said to accommodate over 275,000 jobs for its duration while at the same time, bettering the economic conditions for employments for the years to come. Overall, the program is reported to generate economic growth of approximately 3.8 – 4.5%, with a projected GDP increase of AED 112.6 billion (1). With all sectors directly contributing to this spike including tourism, the numerous F&B outlets, and live entertainment units – the spike is said to progress by AED 62.2 billion felt from 2021 – 2030.
