Modular may not work for every project.  The real question is, "Does your project work for modular. 

A major benefit with modular construction is to avoid unnecessary field work.  With that, you may sacrifice some dimensions (dbl walls and floor/ceiling assemblies).  Those can both be avoided with a lot of added field costs and time.  The problem is not in the modular approach.  The problem is that the typical designer doesn’t want to admit that it is another way of building and with that said “all different approaches have their pros and cons”.  Modular brings many benefits to a project and all parties from the design team to the tenant have to accept those as differences.  They are not inequalities.  So ask yourself, why are you looking at modular for your project?  Do you think you will save construction hard costs, or soft costs, or carry costs?  Do you just want to get the project completed faster?  Do you want to have less construction management on the project site, to cut down on your General Conditions?  Be sure you know that answer before you start your research in to the modular world.  (John Erb 5.14.13)
